At Indepth Physio, we know Dance. Our Physiotherapists Dani & Leah have extensive backgrounds in Dance and integrate their knowledge into their assessments and treatments. We not only assess Dancers with injuries, but we also offer preventative and specialized programs such as: Flexibility Programs, CORE stability, Clinical Pilates, Turn Out Enhancement, Pre-pointe/ Pointe strengthening, Pointe shoe fittings etc. We know the dance world, we speak the language. We understand the extensive demands of dance and do our best to give class modifications and recommendations of how to gradually return to class. Best of all? We try to avoid those dreaded words "sit out" as "rest" is so often misinterpreted. We believe there is always a way to keep moving and return to dance safely and effectively. As they say... "The show must go on..."

While a new face at Indepth, this former Highland and current Canadian (East Coast) Step dancer (the much more casual cousin of Irish dance, with a bit of tap thrown in) is by no means a new face in the physiotherapy field. With over 30 years of private practice experience, Kella is truly excited to join the Indepth team. The motto, “You see me once a week. You see you every day. YOU are the one who makes the biggest difference in your recovery” (which means thorough client education coupled with a tailored home program) has always been the back bone (pun not intended) of Kella’s practice. The addition of Pilates to her skill set has only strengthened that core (pun now intended) principle. As well as her strong interest in preventative and functionally based exercise programs, Kella has specific interest in rehabbing knees (from the young and the not so young), performs acupuncture, and does connective tissue based treatment of the jaw (TMJ) for TMD issues. Implementing all these skills while using plain language and a goodly dose of humour, Kella looks forward to working with you!

Nancy holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology from UBC and her Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. Nancy grew up in Calgary and was an avid dancer for more than a decade, practicing in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern styles. Her love of dance was one of the primary reasons she pursued Physiotherapy, and she is excited to now be able to get back into the dance community in a new way.

Nancy managed the Vancouver General Hospital Falls Prevention clinic for 2 years. Here she found a passion for working with geriatric populations and for showing people how dramatically exercise can improve quality of life.

Nancy also currently works as part of the Physiotherapy team for the Calgary Canucks rugby club, where she gets to assess and treat sport-related injuries and help players get back to the game as quickly and safely as possible.

Nancy loves working with a variety of populations, from experienced movers to those totally new to exercise. She loves teaching people to connect with their bodies through movement and help people to live pain-free and strong.

When she’s not in clinic, you can find Nancy taking long walks with her dog at the dog park, taking barre and pilates classes, and getting outdoors as much as possible.

Her dance training has included a wide variety of genres including tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary and African dance and has been an instructor in the Calgary community since 2007. She currently holds her Grade 9 Al Gilbert Tap Certification as well as her Intermediate Level in the RAD Ballet Syllabus. Dani is the owner of Indepth Physiotherapy in Canmore, AB; a practice that prides itself on “using movement as a modality” with a strong interest in dancers and chronic pain patients. She also is the author and creator of the YouTube Channel, THE SOAPBOX- an online physio-based platform she designed for the purposes of educating patients and colleagues about movement tools, treatment ideas and injury prevention topics that she uses daily in her practice. Dani is a strong advocate that more studios should model themselves around a multifaceted approach to pre-professional training. Quality- not quantity- of dance training- is a key concept that is often overlooked can be one of the main precursors to overuse injuries. Dani is adamant that by introducing other elements of training- such as anatomy, injury prevention and cross training- that it will not only aid in the reduction of injuries but add to the efficacy of a dancer’s training regime.
